Baumer sets Section V mark at Class B swim meet

Honeoye Falls-Lima’s Grace Baumer wins the 200 individual medley, breaking a 20-year school record.

Grace Baumer of Honeoye Falls-Lima set a Section V record and finished with two individual titles and a team title at the Section V Class B swimming championships on Saturday.

Baumer, a senior, broke the sectional record in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.52. She also won the 200 individual medley and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team. Her teammate Madison Sullivan won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and anchored the 200 medley relay victory for the Cougars.

Sophomore Kendall Ware placed first in the 100 backstroke for Canandaigua, which captured the team crown with 477 points, 135 ahead of Brighton.

Williamsville East-VI 2, Brighton 0

Lila Platt had five saves for Brighton.

Class D state quarterfinals

Wheatland-Chili 2, Ellicottville-VI 0

Cassie Parker and Taylor Clar each scored for Wheatland-Chili.

Parker scored off an assist from Taylor Ghysel and Clar scored on a penalty kick for the Wildcats (15-6-1).

Wheatland-Chili advances to face Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville out of Section II.

Volleyball

Class C Finals

No. 2 Le Roy 25-25-25, No. 8 Attica 17-21-18

Naomi Hyde finished with 13 service points, 4 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces, and a block for Le Roy (19-0).

Ana Vescovi had seven kills and six digs and Ally Uberty added four kills and a block for the Oatkan Knights.

Class D3 Finals

No 1. Honeoye 25-25-25, No. 2 Finney 9-6-11

Lydia Barnard tallied 4 aces, 6 kills, and 8 digs for Honeoye. The Bulldogs are are champions for a second year in a row and have fifth sectional titles.

Hailey Cornish had 9 assists, 4 kills and 2 aces and Margaret Slocum had 8 digs, a kill, and an ace for the Bulldogs.

Bailey Lis had four kills and six blocks and Desirae Zagari added a block and three aces for Honeoye.
